Jim Grant, also known as "Mudcat," was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played for over a decade, from 1958 to 1971. Born on August 13, 1935, in Lacoochee, Florida, Grant began his baseball career in the Negro leagues before being signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1958. Grant was known for his unique pitching style, including a high leg kick and an unconventional windup that constantly kept batters off balance. In 1965, Grant had a breakout season with the Minnesota Twins, compiling a 21-7 record with an ERA of 3.30. He also helped the Twins reach the World Series that year. While pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1970, he became the first black pitcher to win a World Series game.

Off the field, Grant was involved in various community outreach programs, including a youth baseball academy in his hometown of Lacoochee. He continued to stay involved in baseball, serving as a coach and scout for several years after his retirement. Jim Grant was inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. Today, he is remembered as a talented and influential baseball player who broke barriers in the game and helped pave the way for future generations of players.
