Jim Konstanty Autographs

Jim Konstanty was born on March 2, 1917, in Strykersville, New York. He is known as a former professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1948 to 1954. Jim was a right-handed pitcher who made his major league debut on April 17, 1944, for the Cincinnati Reds. However, it wasn't until he joined the Phillies in 1948 that he had his breakthrough year.
In 1950, Jim Konstanty had one of the greatest seasons a relief pitcher has ever had in Major League Baseball history. He pitched in 152 innings, winning 16 games, saving 22, and finishing with a 2.66 ERA. He even won the National League MVP award that season, becoming the first relief pitcher ever to do so. As a consequence of Jim's contributions, the Phillies won the National League pennant in 1950, but lost to the New York Yankees in the World Series.
Jim Konstanty played for many teams in his career, including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, and St. Louis Cardinals. In total, he played 11 seasons in the big leagues and retired in 1956 with a 66-48 record, 74 saves, and a 3.46 ERA. Jim's contributions to baseball do not end there, as he taught the art of pitching after his playing career was over. His legacy in baseball is still felt today, and his remarkable 1950 season remains one of the greatest feats ever done by a relief pitcher.
