Jim Northrup was a professional baseball player who was born on November 24, 1939. He was known for his achievements in the sport, particularly during his time with the Detroit Tigers. Northrup began his professional baseball career in 1960 when he signed with the Tigers. During his time with the Tigers, Northrup was known for his outstanding performance in the 1968 World Series. In Game 7 of the series, he hit a triple that drove in two runs, helping his team win the championship. He was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the series. Northrup was a powerful hitter who had a career batting average of .267, hit 153 home runs, and had 610 RBIs. In 1974, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, where he played for one season before being traded to the Expos.

After his baseball career came to an end, Northrup went on to work for the Native American Times in Oklahoma, where he documented tribal issues and events. He also authored several books, including "Walking the Rez Road," which is a collection of autobiographical essays, and "Dirty Copper," which is a novel about a Native American detective. Northrup passed away on August 1, 2011, at the age of 71. He will always be remembered as a talented baseball player and as a voice for Native American issues.
