Jim Presley was born on October 23, 1961, in Pensacola, Florida. He went to Tate High School, where he was known for his athletic ability. He was an All-State football player and a star in baseball. After graduation, Presley was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the 1980 amateur draft. Presley played in the major leagues for nine seasons, including stints with the Seattle Mariners, Atlanta Braves, and Baltimore Orioles.
