Jim Rivera Autographs
Jim Rivera was a Major League Baseball outfielder who played for several teams from 1952 to 1961. Born on July 22, 1921, in New York, Rivera grew up in Puerto Rico before returning to the United States to pursue his baseball career. He started his professional career in the minor leagues with the St. Louis Browns organization, where he played with several teams until he was traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1952.
Rivera's time with the White Sox proved to be the most fruitful of his baseball career. He set a personal best in his first year with the team with 15 home runs and 60 runs batted in (RBIs) while recording a .300 batting average. Rivera was part of the famed "Go-Go Sox" team that won the American League pennant in 1959. In the team's World Series appearance, Rivera hit .407 and scored five runs in six games. He earned the nickname "Jungle Jim" because of his athletic fielding skills, which included several acrobatic catches.
Rivera retired from baseball in 1961 after a 10-year career. He hit .256 with 77 home runs and 382 RBIs while also stealing 121 bases. After retiring, Rivera became a scout and coach for the White Sox organization. In 2007, he was inducted into the Puerto Rican Baseball Hall of Fame. Rivera passed away on July 23, 2017, at the age of 96. He will always be remembered for his contributions to the game of baseball and being a part of one of the greatest White Sox teams of all time.
