Jim Wilson Autograph

Jim Wilson was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball in the 1940s and 1950s. Born on February 20, 1922, in San Diego, California, he began his professional baseball career with the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League in 1941. After serving in the US Army during World War II, Wilson signed with the Boston Braves in 1946. In his rookie season, he won 11 games and had a 3.90 earned run average. He earned 12 wins in 1947 and became a regular starting pitcher for the Braves from 1949 to 1954. Jim Wilson was known for his excellent control and his ability to throw strikes. He had a fastball that he mixed with a curveball and a changeup, and he moved the ball around the strike zone to keep batters off balance. He had a career record of 104-92 and a career earned run average of 3.63. After playing for the Braves, Wilson played for the Milwaukee Braves, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and Philadelphia Phillies. He retired from baseball after the 1958 season with 1345 strikeouts and a fielding percentage of .965.

In addition to his successful baseball career, Jim Wilson was also a devoted family man. He was married to his wife, Mary, for over 50 years and had four children. After his baseball career, he worked as a sales representative for an insurance company and lived in San Diego until his death on September 9, 1986, at the age of 64. Jim Wilson was a talented pitcher who enjoyed a successful career in baseball and left a lasting impression on the game.
