Joe Coleman was an American professional baseball player who enjoyed a long and successful career in the major leagues. He was born on February 3, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in nearby Natick. Coleman made his major league debut with the Senators in 1965 at the age of 18. He quickly established himself as one of the team's top pitchers, and in 1969 he won 14 games and was named an American League All-Star. Coleman was traded to the Detroit Tigers in 1971, and it was with the Tigers that he had the best years of his career. In 1972, he won 19 games and led the American League in strikeouts with 257.
