Joe Cunningham was an American professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1954 to 1966. He was born on August 27, 1931, in Paterson, New Jersey, and grew up in San Francisco, California. Cunningham played primarily as a first baseman and outfielder for the Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, and Cincinnati Reds during his 13-year MLB career. He was known for his excellent hitting skills and was a two-time All-Star in 1959 and 1960. He also won a Gold Glove Award in 1959 for his outstanding defensive play as a first baseman.

Cunningham finished his career with a .291 batting average, 820 runs scored, 496 runs batted in, and 64 home runs. After retiring from playing baseball, he worked as a coach for several years before becoming a businessman. Cunningham passed away on August 27, 2021, at the age of 90. He will always be remembered as one of the most talented and hardworking baseball players of his time.
