John D'Acquisto Autographs
John D'Acquisto was a star pitcher during his baseball career spanning from the 1970s to the 1980s. He was born on December 24, 1951, in San Diego, California, where he grew up playing baseball. He attended Saint Augustine High School in San Diego, where he was a standout pitcher, striking out 175 batters in just 90 innings.
In 1970, D'Acquisto was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round. He made his major league debut as a reliever for the Giants in 1973 and was later converted into a starter. He played for the Giants until 1976 and then went on to play for a dozen other teams, including the Padres, Cardinals, Expos, Orioles, and Angels, to name a few. He retired from baseball in 1982 with a lifetime record of 34-51, an ERA of 4.56, and 443 strikeouts.
Despite his stats, D'Acquisto is remembered for more than his pitching. He was a pioneering figure in the game, known for his flowing hair, rock-and-roll music, and flashy cars. He was also one of the first players in the game to embrace a vegetarian diet, which was unheard of at the time. D'Acquisto's impact on the sport can still be felt in today's game, as he paved the way for a different kind of athlete and culture in professional sports.
