John Gibbons Autographs
John Gibbons is best known as a former American professional baseball catcher and manager. Born in Great Falls, Montana, Gibbons grew up in Texas, where he attended MacArthur High School. During his high school years, Gibbons showed remarkable skill as a catcher and was soon signed by the New York Mets in 1980 as an amateur free agent.
Gibbons spent 11 seasons playing in the minor leagues for the Mets organization. During this time, he was known for his strong throwing arm and excellent defensive skills behind the plate. However, his batting abilities were modest at best, and he never reached the majors as a player. In 1995, Gibbons retired from playing baseball and shifted his focus to coaching and managing.
After several years working as a coach and manager in the Mets organization, Gibbons was named the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2004. Gibbons proved to be a skilled and innovative manager, leading the Blue Jays to three winning seasons and two playoff appearances during his tenure. Gibbons was known for his direct and honest approach with his players and his willingness to take risks with unconventional strategies on the field. Despite his success, Gibbons was fired from his position in 2008 but returned to manage the team again in 2013 and 2018.
