John Odom, also known as "Blue Moon" Odom, was born on May 29, 1945, in Macon, Georgia. From an early age, Odom honed his skills on the baseball diamond, impressing scouts and coaches with his natural talent and athleticism. In 1964, Odom was signed by the Kansas City Athletics (now the Oakland A's) and embarked on a professional baseball career that would span nearly a decade. He made his major league debut in 1966, and quickly established himself as one of the A's most reliable starting pitchers. Odom's signature pitch was his curveball, which he used to great effect to strike out opposing batters and keep runners off base.
