Johnny Hopp was a professional baseball player from the United States. He was born on July 18, 1916, in Hastings, Nebraska. Hopp started his professional baseball career in 1936 when he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for the team till 1943 and was part of the 1942 World Series-winning team. Hopp's career started slowly with the Cardinals, but he soon became one of the team's most valuable players. He was known for his excellent batting skills, speed on base, and sharp fielding ability. In 1940, he led the National League with a batting average of .357, which earned him an All-Star selection. He was also selected to play in the All-Star game in 1941 and 1942. Hopp was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1944 and later to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946. He played his final season with the Boston Braves in 1952. Over his 15-year career, he had a batting average of .296, 845 runs batted in, and 703 runs scored.

After retiring from baseball, Hopp coached for the New York Giants and worked as a scout for the Milwaukee Braves. He was inducted into the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. Hopp passed away on June 1, 2003, at the age of 86. He left behind a legacy as one of the most underrated players in baseball history, known for his smooth swing and range in the field.
