Roseboro was a phenomenal defensive catcher and a two-time Gold Glove winner during his career. He was also known for mentoring and coaching young pitchers on the Dodgers, such as Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. During his time with the Dodgers, Roseboro participated in three World Series, with two victories in 1959 and 1963. In 1963, he was named the National League All-Star Game MVP.

Roseboro was also known for his involvement in an infamous altercation during a game against the San Francisco Giants in 1965. Giants pitcher Juan Marichal hit Roseboro in the head with his bat during a scuffle between the two, resulting in a bench-clearing brawl. Though the incident resulted in a 14-game suspension for Marichal, Roseboro continued to play and showed remarkable resilience after the incident.
