Josh Fields is a former American professional baseball player who enjoyed a successful career in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a relief pitcher. Born on August 19, 1985, in Hull, Georgia, Fields played baseball in high school before joining the University of Georgia baseball team. In 2007, he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the first round, and he made his MLB debut with the team the following year.
Fields spent four seasons with the White Sox, primarily as a reliever. During his time with the team, he posted a 4.66 earned run average (ERA) and recorded 29 saves. In 2011, he was traded to the Kansas City Royals, where he spent one season before joining the Houston Astros in 2012. It was with the Astros that Fields enjoyed the best season of his career, posting a 2.01 ERA and recording six saves in 2014.
After the 2015 season, Fields signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent three seasons with the team, making appearances in both the regular season and the postseason. In 2017, he was a part of the Dodgers team that made it to the World Series, although they ultimately lost to the Houston Astros. Fields retired from baseball in 2019, finishing his career with a 4.53 ERA and 21 saves.
