Castillo spent the majority of his career as a catcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he played from 1998 to 2002. During his time with the Diamondbacks, Castillo was a key player on the team's inaugural 1998 squad that won the National League West division title. He was known for his strong arm behind the plate and his ability to work well with pitchers. In 2003, Castillo played for the New York Mets before ending his major league career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004.

Throughout his career, Castillo was respected by his teammates and coaches for his work ethic and leadership on and off the field. He finished his career with a .237 batting average, 17 home runs, and 97 runs batted in. After retiring from baseball, Castillo returned to his hometown in the Dominican Republic and became involved in coaching youth baseball teams, passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of players.
