Julio Cruz is a former professional baseball player from Nicaragua who was born on September 3, 1954. Cruz started his professional career in the minor leagues in 1974 and made his Major League Baseball debut in 1977 with the Seattle Mariners. He played for the Mariners for six seasons before being traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1983, where he played until 1985. One of the highlights of Cruz's career came in 1983, when he helped lead the White Sox to the American League Championship Series. In that series, he batted .333 with six hits in 18 at-bats and was a key player in the team's success. Cruz was also a valuable asset on the basepaths, stealing 290 bases over the course of his career and leading the American League in steals in 1980.

Cruz retired from baseball after the 1986 season with a .237 career batting average, 7 home runs, and 260 runs batted in. However, his defensive skills and speed on the basepaths made him a valuable player throughout his career.
