Kei Igawa is a retired Japanese baseball player who was born on July 13, 1979 in Oarai, Ibaraki, Japan. During his baseball career, he was a left-handed pitcher who played for several teams in different leagues. He started his professional career with the Hanshin Tigers in 1998 and played with them until 2006. Igawa then signed with the New York Yankees in 2007, where he made his Major League Baseball debut. However, his performance in the MLB was not as successful as his career in Japan. He played in 16 games for the Yankees, winning 2 and losing 4 while also posting an ERA of 6.66. He was sent down to the Minor Leagues before being traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2008.
