Kei Igawa is a retired Japanese baseball player who was born on July 13, 1979 in Oarai, Ibaraki, Japan. During his baseball career, he was a left-handed pitcher who played for several teams in different leagues. He started his professional career with the Hanshin Tigers in 1998 and played with them until 2006. Igawa became a well-known player in Japan for his exceptional pitching skills and won the Sawamura Award in 2003 and 2004.
Igawa then signed with the New York Yankees in 2007, where he made his Major League Baseball debut. However, his performance in the MLB was not as successful as his career in Japan. He played in 16 games for the Yankees, winning 2 and losing 4 while also posting an ERA of 6.66. He was sent down to the Minor Leagues before being traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2008. After spending some time in the Minor Leagues, Igawa returned to Japan in 2013 to play for the Orix Buffaloes, where his career began to wind down.
Throughout his 15-year baseball career, Kei Igawa left a lasting impression on the Japanese baseball community. He was known for his outstanding pitching ability, and his on-field achievements earned him various accolades. Although his success in the Major Leagues did not match his success in Japan, there is no denying the impact he had on the sport of baseball in his home country. Regardless of where he played, his contributions to the world of baseball will always be remembered.
