Ken Griffey, Jr. Autographs
Ken Griffey Jr. was a Major League Baseball player who spent 22 seasons in the league, from 1989 to 2010. Born on November 21, 1969, in Donora, Pennsylvania, Griffey was a highly touted prospect from a young age and was selected first overall in the 1987 MLB draft by the Seattle Mariners. Throughout his career, Griffey was known for his exceptional athleticism, impressive power at the plate, and smooth, graceful defensive play in center field.
Griffey quickly established himself as one of the best players in the league and was a 13-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove winner, and seven-time Silver Slugger recipient. He won the American League MVP award in 1997, hitting 56 home runs with a 1.028 OPS and leading the Mariners to their first-ever playoff appearance. Griffey was also part of the legendary home run chase of 1998, where he and Mark McGwire captivated the nation by hitting a record-breaking number of home runs in a single season.
Despite battling injuries throughout his career, Griffey continued to be one of the most dominant players in the league and retired with 630 home runs, which ranks him seventh on the all-time home run list. In 2016, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility with a near-unanimous vote. Griffey's impact on the game of baseball cannot be overstated, as he was one of the most popular players of his generation and his signature backward cap and grin became iconic symbols of his easygoing, fun-loving personality.
