Kenji Johjima Autographs
Kenji Johjima is best known for his successful baseball career in Japan and the United States. Born on June 8, 1976, in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, Johjima was interested in baseball from a young age. He graduated from Beppu City Kusunokidai Elementary School and went on to play for the Kanoya Red Arrows in junior high school. He then attended Takeo High School, where he played catcher for the school's baseball team and helped them win the national championship in the summer of 1993.
Johjima signed with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in 1995, at the age of 19. He played for the Hawks for 11 seasons, establishing himself as one of the top catchers in Japanese baseball. In his career with the Hawks, he appeared in five Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) All-Star Games and won three Gold Gloves. He also helped the team win the Japan Series in 2003 and 2011.
In 2006, Johjima became a free agent and signed a three-year contract with the Seattle Mariners. He played for the Mariners from 2006-2009 and followed that up with a one-season stint with the Hanshin Tigers in 2010. Johjima retired from professional baseball in 2014, having left a lasting impression on baseball fans in Japan and the United States.
