Kevin Appier is a former professional baseball player who played 16 seasons in the Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on December 6, 1967, in Lancaster, California. Appier played for four teams during his career, which started in 1989 and ended in 2004. He was known for his excellent pitching skills, especially his ability to pitch accurately and consistently.
Appier was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1987 and spent 11 seasons with the team. He quickly rose through the ranks of the minor league system and made his MLB debut in 1989. Appier was one of the most successful pitchers of his time and was named an All-Star in 1995, 1996, and 1998. He was known for his effectiveness on the mound and his ability to throw a variety of pitches that kept hitters off-balance. In 1993, he finished third in the American League Cy Young Award voting, and he finished in the top ten four other times during his career.
After leaving the Royals in 1999, Appier played for the Oakland Athletics, New York Mets, and Anaheim Angels before retiring in 2004. He finished his career with a record of 169-137 and an ERA of 3.74. Appier was admired for his consistency and his ability to pitch deep into games. He retired as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the Royals franchise, and his contributions to the team's success will always be remembered.
