He was born on February 18, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa, and attended Central Heights High School where he played high school baseball. Tapani would go on to play for several other teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Minnesota Twins, and the New York Mets before retiring in 2001. Throughout his career, he had a record of 143-125 with an earned run average of 4.35. Tapani was a key contributor to the Twins’ World Series win in 1991 and was named an All-Star in 1998 while playing for the Twins.
