Larry Dierker is a former Major League Baseball pitcher and manager, born on September 22, 1946 in Hollywood, California. He began his professional baseball career straight out of high school, signing with the Houston Colt .45s in 1964, which would later become the Houston Astros. Dierker spent the majority of his career with the Astros, where he played for 13 seasons and earned two All-Star Game selections. He also pitched a no-hitter against the Montreal Expos in 1976, becoming the youngest pitcher in National League history to accomplish the feat at 29 years old. More about Larry Dierker

In addition to his playing career, Dierker also managed the Houston Astros for five seasons from 1997 to 2001. He led the Astros to the playoffs four times during his tenure as manager, including their first-ever National League Championship Series appearance in 1998. Dierker also received the National League Manager of the Year award in 1998 for his efforts.

After his managerial career, Dierker remained involved in baseball as a broadcaster and commentator for the Astros, working for both local and national broadcasts. He was inducted into the Houston Astros Hall of Fame in 2002, and his number 49 was retired by the team in 2002 as well. Overall, Dierker’s contributions to the Astros organization both as a player and manager have solidified him as a significant figure in the team’s history.
