Rothschild had a successful career as a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1975 to 1985, playing for the Reds, San Diego Padres, and Detroit Tigers. After retiring as a player, Rothschild became a pitching coach, beginning with the Cincinnati Reds from 1990 to 1993.
