Lee Thomas is a former professional baseball player and executive who was born on February 5, 1936, in Peoria, Illinois. Thomas began his baseball journey at Bradley University, where he played baseball and basketball. He made his major league debut with the New York Yankees in 1961 but later joined the Los Angeles Angels in 1962. Thomas had a respectable career as a player, hitting 51 home runs and 214 runs batted in (RBIs) with a .261 batting average in 743 games over nine seasons. Lee Thomas moved into coaching after his career as a player ended. In 1974, he joined the Philadelphia Phillies as their minor league hitting instructor. A year later, he worked as the scout and player personnel director for the Detroit Tigers. Later on, he held executive positions with various other teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers. From 1988 to 1992, Thomas was the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. He was responsible for bringing in players that led the team to their first World Series championship in 1980.

Thomas retired from the MLB in 2008, having spent over four decades in the industry. During his time as a player and an executive, he had a remarkable understanding of the game of baseball. He was respected throughout the league for his strategic planning, talent scouting, and decision-making abilities. Having been inducted into Bradley University's Hall of Fame, Thomas is remembered as one of the greatest baseball players and executives of his time. His contributions to the game of baseball have left an indelible mark on the industry.
