Len Barker Autographs
Len Barker was a former American Major League Baseball player born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, in 1955. He grew up in a military family and spent his early years in various locations. Barker was drafted in the second round by the Texas Rangers after he finished high school. Still, he decided to attend the University of Tennessee before signing with the Montreal Expos in 1973.
Barker instituted himself as a top prospect with the Indians in the late '70s, and he made his big league debut in 1976. He pitched for the Indians from 1979 to 1983 and is best remembered for his May 15, 1981, no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Stadium. Barker's no-hitter was the tenth in Cleveland Indians history. In Cleveland, Barker joined an elite group of Indians pitchers, including Bob Feller, Addie Joss, and Sam McDowell, who had achieved the same feat.
Barker stopped playing sports after undergoing major shoulder surgery in 1987. Since then, he has worked as a pitching coach and baseball broadcaster. Barker was a talented pitcher with a four-seam fastball that topped out at around 95 miles per hour. He retired with a 74-76 career record, but he is mainly remembered for his no-hitter and his time as a significant player on the Indians' pitching staff during the early 1980s. Barker's contribution to the game is still remembered in Cleveland Indians history.
