Leon Durham Autographs
Leon Durham is an American former Major League Baseball first baseman who played for some of the most iconic teams in the sport. Durham was born on July 31, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and began his baseball career in 1976 after being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round of the draft. However, he made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs in 1980 after being traded to the team in 1979.
Durham quickly became a force to be reckoned with as a first baseman, earning his first All-Star selection in 1982, when he hit a career-high 22 home runs and 90 runs batted in (RBIs). He continued to be a consistent power hitter for the Cubs, finishing in the top 10 in home runs in the National League in four of his six seasons with the team. In 1984, Durham and the Cubs made it all the way to the National League Championship Series, but they fell just short of a World Series berth after losing to the San Diego Padres in the decisive fifth game of the series.
Durham played for several other teams after leaving the Cubs, including the Cincinnati Reds, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Milwaukee Brewers. He retired from baseball in 1995 with a career batting average of .277, 147 home runs, and 530 RBIs. Despite his impressive statistics, Durham is perhaps best remembered for his time with the Cubs, where he became a beloved figure among the team's fans and remains a cherished part of the franchise's history.
