During his nine-year career in the major leagues, Ford played for the Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, and the Houston Astros. He had a career batting average of .268 with 35 home runs and 219 runs batted in. In his best season in 2004, Ford batted .299 with 15 home runs and 72 runs batted in as a member of the Twins. Despite his impressive statistics, Ford was primarily a bench player and was often referred to as a utility player because of his ability to play multiple positions.

After his stint in Major League Baseball, Ford played for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League from 2012 to 2019. He holds several records with the Ducks, including the most career hits and the most career games played. In 2019, he was named the Atlantic League Player of the Year, and he helped lead the Ducks to two championship titles in 2013 and 2019. Ford’s success in the Atlantic League proved that he still had the ability to play at a high level despite being in his mid-40s, and he retired from professional baseball in 2019.
