Lon Warneke Autographs
Lon Warneke was an American Major League Baseball player who was born on March 28, 1909, in Mount Ida, Arkansas. He began his professional career in baseball when he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1930. Warneke was a highly versatile player and was used both as a pitcher and a hitter. In his first season in the major leagues, he recorded his debut win as a starting pitcher.
Lon Warneke was known for his formidable control over the ball, making it difficult for the opposition to score against him. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals for nine seasons and managed to record 20 win seasons four times. Additionally, in 1941 he set a record for the highest individual win record with 17-4. Warneke was a three-time All-Star player and in 1932 he was part of the St. Louis Cardinals team that won the World Series.
In the latter part of his career, Lon Warneke continued to play for several clubs including the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, and New York Giants. By the time he retired in 1945, he had a career record of 192-121 and an earned run average (ERA) of 3.18. Lon Warneke was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1963 and he passed away on June 23, 1976, at the age of 67. His legacy in the world of baseball remains unchallenged as a highly acclaimed pitcher and a consummate professional athlete.
