Lou Johnson Autographs

Lou Johnson was an American professional baseball player, born on September 22, 1934, in Lexington, Kentucky, and passed away on October 1, 2020. Johnson played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 8 seasons from 1960 to 1969, playing for four teams: the Chicago Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Cleveland Indians. Johnson's primary position was an outfielder, but he occasionally played as a first baseman during his career. In his 8 years in the MLB, Johnson posted a batting average of .258 and a total of 48 home runs.
While Johnson's entire baseball career was noteworthy, it was his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1960s that brought him the most recognition. He joined the team in 1965 and helped them win the World Series that year, posting a .259 batting average in the postseason. His most memorable moment came in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series when he hit a 7th inning homer that secured the Dodgers' victory over the Minnesota Twins. This clutch hit earned Johnson the nickname "Sweet Lou," which fans and teammates used for the rest of his playing career.
After retiring from playing baseball, Johnson continued to be involved with the sport as a coach, motivational speaker, and community leader. He also worked with the Dodgers on community relations and was known for his generosity and kindness to fans. Johnson's contributions to the game of baseball have left a lasting impact on fans, players, and the sport as a whole.
