Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr. was an American baseball player born on November 22, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama. He played as an outfielder for four different teams during his career, the Minnesota Twins, California Angels, and the Chicago White Sox. He began his professional career in 1975 with the Minnesota Twins, where he played for three seasons. During the 1978 season, Bostock joined the California Angels, where he had one of the best seasons of his career. He finished the season with a batting average of .323, 14 home runs, and 74 RBI's. However, his baseball career came to a tragic end on September 23, 1978, when he was fatally shot in Gary, Indiana. He was just 27 years old at the time of his death. Although his baseball career was brief, Bostock was known for his outstanding talent, especially on the field. His contribution to the world of baseball is still recognized today.

In 1999, Bostock was inducted into the Birmingham Baseball Hall of Fame. Additionally, his family established the Lyman Bostock Jr. All-Star Classic, a youth baseball tournament held annually in his honor in Birmingham. Bostock's legacy has inspired countless young athletes over the years, and his impact continues to be felt in the world of baseball.
