In 1993, Suzuki signed with the Seattle Mariners as an amateur free agent. He spent four seasons in the minor leagues before making his major league debut on September 12, 1996, against the Boston Red Sox. He went on to pitch for the Mariners, Kansas City Royals, and Milwaukee Brewers during his career. He was known for his fastball that could reach up to 96 mph and his competitive spirit on the mound.

Suzuki's best season in the majors came in 1999 when he went 8-5 with a 3.92 ERA and 84 strikeouts for the Mariners. He also represented Japan in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where he helped his team win a bronze medal. Suzuki retired from baseball in 2010 after playing in Japan for several years.
