Mace Brown was an American baseball pitcher who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, and Brooklyn Dodgers. He was born on May 28, 1909, in North Carolina, and he started his baseball career in 1930 with the Class C Tarboro Serpents. In 1933, Brown was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and made his Major League debut in the same year. Mace Brown was known for his pitch selection, control, and competitive spirit. Mace Brown had a successful baseball career with a record of 81 wins and 74 losses, an earned run average of 3.60, and 583 strikeouts. His best year was in 1940 when he won 15 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and had an earned run average of 2.95. He was also part of the 1941 Cincinnati Reds team that won the National League championship. In that year, he won 16 games and finished third in the National League in earned run average.

After retiring from baseball, Mace Brown returned to his native North Carolina and became a successful businessman. He operated a gas and oil company, and he was also involved in the local community. Mace Brown died on March 13, 2002, at the age of 92. He was remembered as a great baseball player who played with passion and dedication.
