Born on March 20, 1971 in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, Manny Alexander began his journey towards a professional baseball career at a young age. He began playing baseball in local little leagues and eventually joined the Chicago Cubs organization as a shortstop in 1988 after being scouted by the team. Alexander got his first break when he was called up to the major leagues in 1992, where he played for the Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
During his baseball career, Manny Alexander was known for his solid defense at shortstop and his ability to switch-hit. In over 600 games, he recorded 924 putouts, 1,580 assists, and had a .954 fielding percentage. Although he was not known for his hitting, he did hit five home runs and had 129 runs batted in.
