Diaz began his baseball career in his hometown by playing for the Little League teams. Diaz made his Major League debut on June 26, 1987, with the Royals. As a utility infielder, Diaz played for five different teams during his career, including the Royals, the Texas Rangers, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Seattle Mariners. Throughout his career, Diaz was known for his defensive abilities, particularly his strong arm and accurate throws. He appeared in 450 games, hitting .248 with 4 home runs and 94 RBI.

After his baseball career, Diaz retired and focused on coaching. He has coached little league teams in Puerto Rico and has also served as a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. His legacy as a baseball player and coach continues to inspire young players in his Puerto Rican community, and his contributions to the sport will forever be remembered.
