Clark made his Major League debut with the Cardinals in 1991 and pitched for the team for four seasons before being traded to the Cleveland Indians. He also played for the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, and Milwaukee Brewers during his career. Clark was known for his powerful fastball and his ability to pitch deep into games. He had a career record of 74-72 with a 4.61 ERA and 794 strikeouts in 1327 innings pitched.

One of Clark's most memorable moments in his career came in Game 4 of the 1999 National League Championship Series when he pitched a complete game shutout for the Mets against the Atlanta Braves. Clark allowed only two hits and struck out nine batters in what was a must-win game for the Mets. The win helped the Mets tie the series and eventually win the pennant. Clark retired from baseball after the 2002 season and currently resides in Springfield, Illinois.
