Mark Prior, born on September 7, 1980, in San Diego, California, is a former American professional baseball player. He is widely considered as one of the most talented pitchers in the history of baseball. Prior attended the University of Southern California, where he played college baseball for the Trojans. Prior made his major league debut for the Chicago Cubs on May 22, 2002, and was an instant sensation. In his rookie season, he posted an impressive record of 6-6, with an ERA of 3.32, and struck out over 100 batters. The following year, Prior earned an All-Star selection and was a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award after posting a record of 18-6 and an ERA of 2.43. However, his career was cut short due to injuries, and he never lived up to the expectations set by his early success.
