Mark Sweeney Autographs
Mark Sweeney was born on October 26, 1969, in Framingham, Massachusetts. He grew up playing baseball and basketball but ultimately chose to pursue his love for baseball. Sweeney attended the University of Maine, Orono, where he played for the Black Bears as an outfielder. In 1991, he was drafted by the California Angels in the ninth round of the MLB draft.
Sweeney played for eleven different Major League Baseball teams during his career. He was known for his versatility and ability to play multiple positions. He primarily played as an outfielder and first baseman but also played second and third base. Sweeney's best season came in 2000 when he played for the San Diego Padres. He hit .316 with 10 home runs and 72 RBIs in 135 games. He was often used as a pinch hitter and holds the record for the most pinch hits in a season with 24 in 2000.
Sweeney retired from baseball after the 2008 season with a career batting average of .254, 1394 hits, and 163 home runs. He is now a television analyst and works for the San Diego Padres. He is also involved in charity work and has hosted a charity golf tournament to benefit the San Diego chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Sweeney's dedication to the sport of baseball and his philanthropic efforts have made him an important figure in the game.
