During his time with the Cardinals, Marion was a key part of the team that won the National League pennant in 1942, 1943, and 1944. He was also a part of the team that won the World Series championship in 1942. Marion's exceptional defense earned him the nickname "Slats," a name that stuck throughout his career. In 1944, Marion was named the National League's Most Valuable Player, a recognition that highlighted his importance to his team and the league.

After his retirement from baseball, Marion spent several years as a coach and manager in the minor leagues.
