Born on November 26th, 1985 in Galveston, Texas, Carpenter initially attended Elkins High School in Missouri City before moving on to attend Texas Christian University. Carpenter's professional baseball career began in 2009 when he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals after being drafted in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball Draft. In his first two years with the Cardinals, Carpenter played mostly as a bench player and a utility infielder. However, in 2012, he earned a starting spot in the outfield and made a significant impact on the team's performance.
