Matt Treanor was born on March 3, 1976, in Garden Grove, California, USA. He is a retired professional baseball catcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for various teams from 2004 to 2012. Treanor attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where he played baseball and football. He went on to attend Riverside Community College before transfering to Long Beach State University, where he earned a degree in kinesiology.
Treanor began his professional baseball career in 1994 when he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the fourth round of the MLB draft. However, he didn't make his MLB debut until 2004 when he was called up to the Florida Marlins. He played for the Marlins for four seasons, solidifying his role as a defensive catcher with a reliable arm. In 2009, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers but only played in 29 games due to a hip injury. The following year he signed with the Texas Rangers and became their starting catcher during their postseason run. Treanor also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2011 and the Kansas City Royals in 2012, where he retired after the season.
Throughout his career, Treanor was known for his outstanding defense and leadership skills. He was a respected player who was willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. He caught two no-hitters during his career, one with the Florida Marlins in 2006 and the other with the Texas Rangers in 2010. Treanor's career statistics include a .221 batting average, 18 home runs, and 128 RBIs in 468 games played. Although he wasn't known for his hitting, he was a valuable asset to his teams for his defense, game-calling, and ability to handle pitching staffs.
