Mel Harder Autograph

Mel Harder was a dominant right-handed pitcher who spent his entire 20-year career playing for the Cleveland Indians. Harder is best remembered for his performances in the postseason, particularly during the 1948 World Series. In Game 2 of the series against the Boston Braves, Harder pitched a complete game shutout, striking out eight batters and allowing only three hits. The Indians went on to win the series in six games, with Harder earning the win in Game 6. His performance in the series earned him widespread acclaim, and solidified his legacy as one of the greatest postseason pitchers in baseball history.

After his retirement from baseball in 1947, Harder remained involved in the sport as a coach and scout for the Indians. He was eventually inducted into the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame in 1965, and was later chosen to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the 1994 All-Star Game hosted in Cleveland. Harder passed away at the age of 93 in 2002, but his contributions to the game of baseball will always be remembered. Read even more about Mel Harder at Wikipedia
