Mickey Harris was a talented baseball player born in 1917 in Dothan, Alabama. Despite his small stature, Harris had a powerful arm and excellent pitching skills, which quickly caught the attention of scouts. He signed his first professional contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1940, and he quickly made his way up the ranks to the Major Leagues in 1941, where he pitched for the Tigers until he was drafted to serve in World War II. After the war and his return to baseball, Harris joined the Boston Red Sox, where he had the best years of his career. He became one of the top pitchers in the American League, finishing with a career high of 17 wins in both 1948 and 1949. He was known for his curveball, which was widely considered one of the most devastating in the league. His performance in the 1948 All-Star Game further cemented his reputation when he threw three scoreless innings and helped the American League win the game.

Harris's baseball career spanned from 1941 to 1956 and included stints with the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators, and Boston Red Sox. He had a career record of 54-53 with an ERA of 3.66. Harris was also known for his durability and for pitching in relief when needed. After his retirement from baseball, he became a successful businessman and later became involved with various baseball charities, such as the Jimmy Fund, which benefits cancer research.
