Stanley played his entire career with the Detroit Tigers from 1964 to 1978. He was known for his defensive prowess, versatility, and athletic ability. In 1965, Stanley took on the role of shortstop, where he remained for the next six seasons. He was a four-time Gold Glove winner and was known for his incredible range, agility, and strong arm. During the 1968 season, the Tigers faced numerous injuries, forcing Stanley to switch to the outfield. He not only became the regular center fielder but also took over the leadoff spot in the batting order.
