Tettleton began his Major League career with the Oakland Athletics in 1984, but he didn't gain national attention until he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 1988. In his first season with Baltimore, Tettleton hit 26 home runs and drove in 58 RBIs, earning him his first All-Star nomination, and establishing himself as one of the best hitting catchers in baseball. He spent four seasons with the Orioles before being traded to the Detroit Tigers, where he had some of his best years, hitting 31 and 32 home runs in consecutive years, respectively.

Tettleton retired from baseball in 1997, having hit 245 home runs, earned two All-Star selections, and won a Silver Slugger Award during his career. After his playing days, Tettleton remained involved in the game and worked as a coach and scout in the minor leagues. His dedication and passion for the game of baseball have earned him a spot in the hearts of fans and players alike, and his legacy has cemented him as one of the most respected catchers of his generation.
