Mike Andrews Autographs

Mike AndrewsMike Andrews, born in Los Angeles in 1943, had a successful baseball career that spanned over a decade. He initially played for UCLA as a third baseman before he was signed by the Kansas City Athletics in 1963. He later played for the Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox. His best season was in 1969 when he played for the Red Sox and had a batting average of .317.
Despite his impressive career, Andrews is perhaps most remembered for an incident during the 1973 World Series while playing for the Oakland Athletics. He made two errors in the 12th inning of game two, causing the Athletics to lose the game to the New York Mets. The Athletics team owner, Charlie Finley, publicly criticized Andrews, accusing him of feigning an injury in order to avoid playing in the next game. However, the team rallied behind Andrews, and many players threatened to strike if he was released. The league ruled in Andrews' favor, and he was reinstated with the team.
After retiring from baseball, Andrews worked as a consultant and later as the director of the Baseball Assistance Team, a non-profit organization that helps former players who are facing financial, medical or personal issues. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Andrews was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2004. Despite the incident in 1973, Andrews is seen as a respected and talented player who was beloved by his teammates and fans.
