In 2005, Mike was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the MLB draft. He spent a few years playing in the minor leagues and made his MLB debut with the Padres on September 6, 2010. The following year, Mike was traded to the New York Mets, his hometown team. He played for the Mets for two seasons and became well-known for a heroic catch he made during a game in 2012. He sacrificed his body, crashing into a wall to rob Yadier Molina of a hit that would have given the St. Louis Cardinals the lead in the ninth inning of a pivotal game. The catch was replayed on highlight reels for weeks and earned him recognition as a fan favorite.

Mike Baxter retired from professional baseball in 2015 after playing parts of five seasons in the MLB. Over the course of his career, he had a batting average of .228 and had four home runs and 44 RBI. Mike may not have had the most glamorous baseball career, but his commitment to the game and his hometown team, the New York Mets, have garnered him an enduring legacy among the Mets faithful. He remains involved in the baseball world today, serving as the hitting coach for the University of San Diego's baseball team. Read even more about Mike Baxter at Wikipedia
