Mike Foltynewicz was born on October 7, 1991, in Sterling, Illinois. He had a keen interest in baseball since his childhood, and he used to play the game with his friends in the backyard. Foltynewicz started his high school career at Minooka Community High School, where he played as a starting pitcher. He was an excellent high school athlete and was named the Southwest Prairie Conference Pitcher of the Year in his junior year. In his senior year, he posted a 10-0 record with a 0.83 ERA and 125 strikeouts. Foltynewicz joined the Houston Astros in 2014 and played in the minor leagues for most of the season. He made his major league debut on August 2, 2014, pitching five innings and allowing three runs. Over time, he established himself as a reliable starter for the Astros, but he was traded to the Atlanta Braves in 2015. Foltynewicz's career took off with the Braves, and he became a major part of the team's pitching staff.
