Mike Fontenot's baseball career took an upward trajectory when he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 21st round of the 1999 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. After two seasons, he moved to the San Francisco Giants, where he played for three seasons and helped the team win the World Series in 2010. Mike also played for the Philadelphia Phillies, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Cincinnati Reds before retiring in 2015.

During his baseball career, Mike Fontenot played as an infielder who could play both shortstop and second base. He played a total of 607 games, with a batting average of .265, 38 home runs, and 200 runs batted in.
