In 1978 he was traded to the San Diego Padres and played there for two seasons before being traded again to the Detroit Tigers. His playing time and productivity decreased in his later years, and Ivie retired after the 1983 season. Over his 10-year career, Ivie played for four different teams, hitting .269 with 81 home runs and 340 RBIs.

After retiring from baseball, Ivie worked as a sales representative for a paper company for several years. In the early 2000s, he struggled with alcoholism but was able to overcome it with the help of his family and friends. Ivie now lives a sober life and enjoys playing golf and watching baseball. He remains a fan favorite among Giants fans, and in 2017, he was inducted into the San Jose Giants Hall of Fame. Read even more about Mike Ivie at Wikipedia
