Sandlock's best season as a player was in 1945 when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He appeared in 98 games, batting .282 with two home runs and 28 runs batted in. He also helped the Dodgers win the National League pennant, and he played a significant role in their loss to the Detroit Tigers in the World Series. After retiring as an active player, Sandlock continued to work in baseball, becoming a scout and coach for a number of teams.

Despite failing to become a star player, Mike Sandlock earned his place in baseball history as one of the oldest living former Major League Baseball players. When he died on April 4, 2016, at the age of 100, he was considered one of the last surviving players to have played in the 1940s.
